Web Resources For North Pacific Gyre Oceanic Garbage Dump

In a perfect world, this impage would contain nothing but pristine, azure water and fish.

This disturbing image comes from the North Pacific Gyre, a vast area of ocean which should consist of little else but coral, fish, whales and other sea life. Instead, it is filled with garbage and we are to blame.

I wrote about this the other day at Keyboard Culture.

I encourage you to examine my thoughts as well as those of the good publishers of GreatGarbagePatch.org.

There is simply no excuse for allowing one of our areas of great natural beauty to degrade in this manner because of our arrogant carelessness. For years, I have been cautious about loose garbage and the proper disposal of solid waste. The existence of the North Pacific Gyre proves that millions of people are careless.

The existence of this garbage dump also proves the awesome power of the planet’s natural systems, including the tight integration between the seas and wind patterns.
