Miracle At St. Anna Another Important Victory For Spike Lee
It’s impossible to be a fan of contemporary cinema without at least respecting Spike Lee. Just as I enjoy the works of John Singleton, I have nothing but good things to say about the directorial efforts of Spike Lee, both on their own merits and for the uncharted waters which Spike navigates. The recent progression of his work behind the camera from He Got Game to 25th Hour to Inside Man has led him to another first, a war film, Miracle At St. Anna.
Spike Lee has done a very fine job with this film. What’s more, with his latest outing, he has continued his superb choice of music both with incidental songs and the scoring. Replete with location shooting and foreign language dialog, Miracle At St. Anna is a wonderful work in and unto itself but also shares with the world an important reflection on the despicable way in which America’s Buffalo Soldiers were treated by their country right at the time it needed them most.
Miracle At St. Anna is not the greatest World War II film ever made (Saving Private Ryan and Guns Of Navarone top my list) but it is a very solid work which I encourage everyone to see. I congratulate Spike Lee for this his latest accomplishment and eagerly await his next masterpiece!
