Quantum Of Solace Ranks Among Best Of James Bond Filmography

Quantum of SolaceWhile I enjoyed Casino Royale, I accompanied my wife to our local megaplex with a sense of melancholy to see Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig was lukewarm on The Tonight Show a few weeks ago, in his patented underspoken style, and I candidly not know what to suspect. Within the first few seconds of the film, I was enthralled. My hope that the automotive chase/shoot-em-up sequence which we had seen in the teasers was used as effectively in the final cut. I was not disappointed. In fact, the numerous action sequences provide for a pace right up there with The Bourne Ultimatum.

The acting is solid all the way around. Dame Judi Dench is leveraged better than in any other film, even Die Another Day. The locating shooting is exquisite, especially in Chile (doubling as Bolivia). The destruction of vehicles is great, too. What sealed the deal for me, though, was the wonderful blend of action and international intrigue, an element missing to varying degrees since the end of the cold war. Don’t get me wrong, Goldeneye and Die Another Day are wonderful films but Quantum of Solace is a notch better and the international intrigue (with a strong environmental undercurrent!) puts it over the top.

This film belongs on your must-see list!
